Default Header and CAM ?

Two questions:

1) Does the Hooker Header 2149 (with EGR,AIR,etc) have a CARB # and be California Smog legal to install ?

2) Has any one run a ZZ4 cam with a stock(ish) L98 (88' Coupe). As I have a used one that I took out of my 84' Z28/350.

Thanks

Dont live in CA, so I am not positive. But, from what I have read on here; there is not a CARB legal LT.

I know a few people who have swapped in a zz4 cam in their L98 and enjoyed it. It doesn't have a huge duration so it makes power between 1-5k, perfect for a low-revving EFI setup. You may want to port out the intake and plenum to get the best out of it, though.

I haven't run a ZZ4 but if you look at the lift #'s there are certainly better cams. Call Summit Racing tech line regarding a carb #. I believe they are not legal in the PRC.

Yes, unless you are putting in a ZZ4 motor to replace, theres absolutely no use to putting a ZZ4 cam in the car. Its too small to do any good, and aint worth the labor putting it in. You can go bigger and still pass smog. A ZZ9 or 211 would work just fine after the chip is made.

I believe the only LT headers listed are from a company called JPA in San Diego but when I called them they said they dont have headers for the C4. I bought headers any way with smog connections so I guess I'll see what happens in a year when I get the smog check. I figure if I have to I will swap the exhaust every 2 years.

Yes the smog stuff will work, no it won't be legal in CA, despite passing emissions. Anything that moves the stock location of cats in CA is not legal (whether it's improving the emissions or not...)

It's total bollocks - I gave up on LT's a while ago.

The ZZ-4 cam in a stock L-98 works well, it has some more power and idles a little rough due to the low 650 RPM idle speed. If you pick up the idle to 750 RPM it will idle smooth.
