Default head unit clearance question

hello, ive just bought a alpine flip out dvd stereo, the problem im having is its very tight at the rear of the deck. all the rca leads and loom etc are getting in the way.

is it possible i can remove the plastic wall peice that sits behind the head unit, or is it structural for any other part of the dash? or should i just cut a hole out of it to allow more room behind. any ideas appriciated. thanks

Yes, you can cut the plastic out of the back of the dash. Even some brand name stereo installtion kits tell you to in their instructions. Their is also a metal brace that is attached to the firewall about another 1/2" behind the plastic. Do not cut out the metal brace. Others have pictures of the plastic cut out.

I had the same problem with my Alpine. The shop kept it an extra day and did something that solved the problem.

has to be done with higher end decks. some of the lower end stuff that isn't so deep fits without the cut. i have a 3 series pioneer in my dash now, fit fine. basic 2 rca $150 deck. the double din mount the factory uses can also look pretty good if you fiberglass it into a single din and re paint. beats the cheapo kits

yes its a pita. i was going to use the left over slot above unit for clifford light and vallet button. and maybe usb port. i didnt want to make irreversable changes to the car ideally. bit tricky getting bits over here.
