I just ended up replacing the icm. It worked great, the car fires right up. Now all i have left is the fuel sending unit (gas gauge never changes) and the abs/asr light to figure out
Excellent, you did the right approach to the ICM by replacing it to diagnose, and not testing it. Personally unless it is completely dead, I don’t see how those tests could really be reliable and have a high confidence factor. The ICM as you found out can have multiple symptoms Congratulations, information for all.
As for the sending unit, when you get it out if it does not test between 20 and 110 ohms it will have to be cleaned up. Both the wiper across the coil and the wiper to ground has to be cleaned.
Mine was so bad when I got the car it measured open at any point. Took me hours with fine emery cloth to get it working. You probably will not get it 100% , however 95-99% would be just fine. Since it is a digital display with the bars driven by the CCM, a slight imperfection in accurate resistance will not be noticed.
If you are successful the gauge drops real slow for the first 1/3 of the tank. I ended up modifying the gauge resistance to give more accuracy.
