OK, auto LT1 Corvette...how hard is it to change the gears at home? Let's say I'm not real knowledgable myself, but it would be me and a friend who works on his old Chevy truck and has basically done everything from the engine work to body work on it, doing the job. Not sure exactly how much of it he knows for sure, but he's fairly knowledgable. Easy job to do?
If I wanted to go to 3.73s, what all do I need to buy? Should I change everything out while I'm back there? Also, is there some where that I can purchase the gears and all necessary parts in a package? How much does that run? Any areas where I might run into problems?
I have never attempted to do anything to the rear end of a car, so all the info you guys throw it is great. And if it is kinda tricky, should I just pay a shop to throw everything in for me? How much would I save doing it at home anyway?
Even though the job isnt very diificult to do,I would let a Pro or someone who has done the job many times set the gears up.
If your friend knows enough and has the correct tools for the gear jobs, you may be allright.Asie from that, because these gears and rear ends cost alot of money,a Pro should be considered.
Or if you need more tech help,or want to buy a complete rear, click on. http://www.vettepart.com
They build rear ends for these cars and sell them through some Vette companies.
Good luck.
