'93 stock. Motor shut off yesterday at a stop light. No restart, turning freely. Towed home. Since the opti is only 18 months old I went with a new ignition module and coil. Still no spark at plugs and I believe no spark to opti. I tried a spark tester between the coil wire to opti. I have 2 ecm's with chips, made no difference. AND I have fuel, just no spark. Tried pulling codes, all 12's. Found a procedure for checking power to the coil and module but a failure there points back to a failed ecm. I have had no running problems in a long time and no indication of a problem before this. It just died, in traffic. Cars were backed up forever I have raodside assistance but couldn't get thru. Wrecker cost $115.00 for 1 mile.
Thanks
Jim
I don't know much about 93's, but if you can unplug the coil wire going to the opti and have someone crank your engine for a couple revs, see if you have spark on the coil wire. If yes, then opti is legs up. If no, then you need to see if you have the spark trigger signal to the spark module. Also, see if you have 12v to the spark module with ign in run.

Can't much improve on Mr. jfb's electronics knowledgebase, but I can tell you a little about diagnosing Ignition [spark control] Circuit fault (pics, FSM schematics) in this thread (as well as testing another circuit that feeds power TO Ignition driver):
If you have a timing light you do not need to pull the coil wire but yes that is where to start. Optis go out in 15yrs or 15min so it does not matter how long it has been on the car.
Part 2
I have zero volts to control module: There are 4 pins to the coil 1 black connector, 1 grey connector, of the four I have 11 volts to one pin only. Schrade mentioned "as well as testing another circuit that feeds power to the module" What circuit and what test? Just this week I was thing...Man, I'm really glad to own a car that has been so trouble free. Please help me guys, it's my DD although I have a spare..."99 Ford

You can have the ICM tested at the parts store.Do you have the FSM? It has a diagnostic test tree in it for the ICM ckt. How did you measure the voltage?
I used a volt meter, each pin to ground. Have FSM and followed tree down to opti connection. Voltage on one pin and ground on the other =
opti time again. I got 100,000+ on the original opti, 18 months on the second, pump is not leaking and I don't wash the motor. Is there a rock solid aftermarket opti. I've thought about the coil pack but you still have the opti incorporated.
Thanks
General consensus on the forum seems to lean toward--"Buy a MSD"--they are pricey-but seem to get good revues from members--although I think the jury is still out on how well they hold up long term---I have a Accel myself on a DD for approx. 1 year--since I installed it I've read some negatives --so far no problems--if it craps out it'll be MSD time for me---even with the individual coil setup you'll still need a "working" opti to act as a trigger for the coils.

Same thread - post 62, pics at post 68, 69, 70...
First check the fuse - #33 (for '94 model year, probably the same for '93). It might also say 'ECM' fuse. I got cash on the fuse is good. It comes from ignition [SWITCHED] power, to the PCM.
Like red said, try the ig module first at Advance / Zone.
Tried the module and coil and all fuses before posting. Am going to replace opti this weekend. If anyone reads this far...Advance has an opti for $219.00 limited LIFETIME warranty.

Zero volts to CM? From where? On circuit 239 from fuse 33 ECM fuse see posted schematics???
11 volts bothers me. I don't think there's 11 volts anywhere on the car, except on a low battery. Sensors get 5V signals too, but THAT range is around 1/2V - 5V.
