I looked in my FSM, and did an advanced search in the archives, and could find only one thread about it, and all it said is DONT DO IT!!!
So if anyone has step by step knowledge of the how too's, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Pull the button off
Inside is a snap ring, you need professional snap ring pliers. Take the snap ring out.
I think the **** just slid off after that, its been a while since I had an auto.
Next you need to unbolt the shifter plate. just follow the screws, check under console door too.
Carefully pull up the shifter plate, under it 4 screws hold the boot in.
Unscrew them, carefully remove the boot without cracking the shifter plate.
Snap ring is the hardest part because its soo deep into the ****. Otherwise, its very easy to do.

Ok, so you say pull the button off, is it just that easy? Are you talking about the center button, in the middle of the shifter? I wouldnt think it would be that easy, so how do you recommend I pull it out?
I am so confused here???
I have never dealt with anything to do with the center console, or removal of anything pertaining to it.

OMG,,,I DID IT!!!! YIPEEEEE!!! It was harder then I imagined, but bf helped me get off the ring, as the tool wouldnt reach down in there, and when putting it back together, I thought I ended up with an extra screw, but finally figured out where it goes.
I hope I never have to do that again. But I accomplished something, and that is a great feeling, and now no more hole in the shift boot! At first, I didnt think I was going to get the boot off without cracking the plate, it must have been the original one!
Thanks for your help, Joe
