Default seat help

I am working on an '88 C4, I thought it had manual seats, but when I pulled the cushion, it's a manual seat mounted on the power track.

All the controls are of course gone, and I am betting the motor / transmission is seized or useless. The carriage is blocking access to the front track mounting bolts. Can anyone tell me how to move the carriage so I can remove the mechanism? I plan to replace the track using the manual set up. Thanks

Don't you have to pull the whole seat to unbolt the carriage from the seat frame?

That's what I did. Pulled the bottom cushion, then unbolted the seat frame. That left me looking at the power seat track. The track is forward enough that I can't get at the front track bolts. If someone can clue me in on how to move the carriage back on the tracks, I should be able to unbolt the track/carriage assembly from the floor. Hopefully to be replaced by a set of manual tracks.

Thanks,
JC

Someone recently said they raised the power seat and then the fore/aft control worked.

If the control switches are gone could try jumpering +12Vdc directly to the seat motor connector.

I recently replaced the seat switch on mine too. I took the switch apart (old one) and I'm pretty sure you can look at the wiring going into the seat motor and there should be a ground (black), after that you should be able to jumper to other wires. there may be more then one ground, I'm not sure I wasnt looking at the wireing enouhg to tell you. But Im pretty sure you can jumper wires to get it to move, only thing i can think of (others mentined it already, jumper wires).

You can move the seat track by using a rechargeable drill.

Looking down on the seat track you will see 3 rubber tubes coming from the seat motor to the seat transmission each held on by 2 clips.

Remove the middle rubber covering and you will see a flexible metal shaft about 10 inches long.

Attach this to the drill and while pushing the shaft into the transmission start the drill....the seat should move (assuming the gears in the transmission arn't totally shot.) Change the direction of the drill to move the seat in the opposite direction.
