I bought a 86 vette. I put new mass air flow sensor and the 2 relays. Is it supoose to make a hissing sound over 2000 rpm? I think i might of mixed up the relays because after 25 min of driving it doesnt make the hissing sound, now I get code 34. Do I need new relays? Did I mess anything up?
ok, i think i really missed up now. I changed the relays and smoke started to come out from under the battery. I burned a wire. So I guess the relays were good in the first place I put them. Now the car cant start.

I was under the impression that both relays are the same for 86-89. After looking through my parts manual, I see that the 86 used 2 different relays.
Not sure why without seeing the electrical schematics for 87-89.
Hopefully someone will chime in, that was swapped both, without a problem.

They are definately 2 different relays according to your link. One is 5 (power)wire the other 4 (burn off)wire. The way I read it when the oil pressure switch pulls in the Maf power relay it supplies 12V to the MAF. If there is no oil pressure and the burn off realay is called for it provides both the 12V for the MAF as well as the 12V burn off trigger.
I swapped both of the relays and I have fixed the problem. Now I need to change the oil pressure sender because it reads 0 psi. Does anyone know where the oil pressure sender is located? Pictures would help. thanks for all your help.
The oil sender is located behind/under the distributor cap, attached to the back of the intake manifold.
You must remove either the dist. or the wiper motor to get something on it. Right beside it is the oil pressure switch, which has no affect on the dash reading. The Sender is a small cylinder with a prong on one end, and looks like a fuel filter.
