any ideas would be very helpfull
Your torque converter is not locking up. Others can help you figure out why, but I'm 99% sure that is your problem. I have a torque converter lock/unlock switch installed in my car and when my converter is unlocked that is exactly what it does. I'm not sure of all the workings or parts of the torque converter lock system so I can't help you much there. I'd get it fixed soon, a converter not locking at highway speeds can overhead your trans and smoke your transmission.
Only other thing I can think of is that maybe your throttle valve cable is out of adjustment, where it attaches to the throttle body. Do a search, you will find the procedure to adjust it. It is very quick and easy to do. It will also smoke your trans in short order if it is out of adjustment.
Send a private message to forum member PeteK. He is the best of the best when it comes to the transmissions and torque converters in these cars. He will be able to explain the workings of the lock/unlock system of the torque converter. I don't know enough about it to help you and I don't want to lead you astray.
Is this a 4+3? or an auto?
If it is an auto, there is a TCC (torque converter clutch) which is a solenoid. find it, and make sure the wires are on it, and they are hooked up.
When I want a passing gear, (86 auto) i just press on the brake pedal a little to unlock the torque converter, but not enough to egage the brakes, it raises the revs, puts the engine in the power band, I accelerate, and then let go of the brake pedal. the converter locks up, and everything is hunky dory.
You might want to check your brake light switch.
If it's a 4+3, you might want to check the overdrive switch to see that it's not shorted in some way.
