Default 87 L98 Vacuum question

Behind thermostat housing is a EGR vacuum module(?). Has two small lines, 1 going to EGR, 2nd going to frt drivers side somewhere, but there is another larger port on the back side, which I believe should be where the vacuum should be coming from to power up the module (Not electric), but can not find the other hose. Can't find a good diagram (that I can read clearly) anywhere. Any suggestions? The car smokes everytime you hit the accelarator for about 5 minutes, then goes away. Running to rich?? It does lope just a little, but I was told no mods have taken place to the motor. Running rich??

Should be a plastic hardline that runs to the rear under the plenum as vac source.
Mine's been gone a long time but recall.
From the 2 vac ports , pass side rear of plenum
One goes to fuel reg
The other goes under plenum and splits ;
front to EGR / rear to 1 way valve by dist , then through firewall to A/c.This line also has T to vac ball under drv side head light

My 86 EGR solenoid got the vacuum from the nipple on bottom of TB(driver side). I believe your 87 may be the same.

On my '87, that port supplies vac to the purge valves under the drv side headlight area.

The EGR solenoid simply allows vacuum to flow through the valve. The valve connects the two small vacuum lines together. One line goes to the EGR valve, the other to the manifold vacuum. What I believe you are looking at on the back side is the vent. I believe there is supposed to be some kind of filter on there but it could be gone. I'm going from memory. If I find some time I'll look it up.

It also should be supplying vacuum to your EGR solenoid.

My 86 does not use that port for any other purpose.

The top picture is mine. The "EGR SOL" w/two lines going to it, is what I'm concerned with. A previous post said there is a filter possible that might go there?/?
As to the other question, will seals and guides cause it to smoke at start-up only, or when accelarating also?? Spelling wrong I know:-)
Thanx to everyone for your input also:-)

I know of no filter there. Smoking at start up is usually a valve seal problem, smoking during acceleration, is usually a piston ring problem.
