Hey to all!!!! This is my 1st post on the forum. I have a 1996 lt1 and I am in the process of replacing the opti spark. All went as planned when taking it off. It took me about 1.5 hours to get it out of the car. Problem is now for the re-install. I did not mark the alignment of the rotor button as I took the old one off. So therefore I do not know where to position it when I put the new one back on. There are 3 positions that are available. Anyone know which one is the correct one or how to figure out which one is correct.
Thanks!!!!
It will only fit one way. You have to align the dowl pin coming from the front of the cam to the slot shown in this picture. Get a flashlight and a mirror to see how the dowel pin is aligned and turn your opti to amtch. You may have to play around awhile before the Opti "snaps" into place :
and her is what the cam alignment dowel pin looks like:
Thanks!!!! pretty simple, I was making it more difficult than it actuall is.
NP. Just remember, when you get it properly aligned, the Opti will slip right on without resistance, and the Opti will be flush with the 3 mounting points. It took me like 10 minutes of rotating the Opti a little this way, and then a likttle that way before I got it just right......(those little rubber 'O' rings will limit any further rotation when you start to insert the Opti. Thats why you may need to pull it completely out a few times to re-adjust the position.)
I am not sure of the Torques spec for the Opti, but snug it down good....but no king kong'ing it...
Same goes for your WP.....30 ft/lbs torque
