Default Urathane Motor Mounts

The new motor is going to twist the motor mounts right off the car.

Anyone have a source for urethane mounts that will fit?

Thanks.

Oh, btw, I don't want solid mounts...

I think energy suspension has urethane motor mounts. I checked on em and you have to drill out the stock spot welds and replace the old rubber mount with the urethane mount. www.energysuspension.com Pipe

You may want to consider running a torque strap from the block to the frame to limit torque windup.

I thought some one on here tried the energy suspension inserts and they said they didn't fit in the stock vettes clam shell? I will have 3 sets soon for the 84-91 vettes made out of billet aluminum and replaceable polyurethane inserts.this is a side view of what they will look like

Are you saying you just used the f body inserts from energy and they fit into the stock vette mounts, or did you replace the vette mounts with f body mounts and energy inserts, and then used them on your vette?
Thanks
Roy

yep, energy makes 2 for the f body, the ones I used are specific for the "clam shell" style mounts. Using the stock vette clam shells, I drilled out hot rivets (easy job), once apart the rubber needed some persusion w/ a propane torch. Then install the F body inserts (they come w/grade 8 studs), I used 1/2" cap bolts, put together as per instructions, and done. The urethanes are made for those clam mounts so the fit is nice and tight, they have a grade 8 sleeve and tang for the saddles in the car. (a mine is a 90)

Energy Suspension part number 3.1127G fits the "2713" clamshell. Energy Suspension lists it as a 93-97 Camaro left-side motor mount insert.

the 2713 is the replacement motor mount for my 91 L98, both sides. Anchor Industries 2713.

I had to buy 7/16x1" bolts (& nuts) to replace the rivets, 3 per side (each mount). 3/4" length bolts would be better but weren't avail at the hardware store.

drilled out the rivets with a 3/8" drill bit.

I will put them in my wish list, thank you. 3.1127G fits both right and left side?

Default Polyurethane Motor Mounts

3.1127G fits both left and right sides, yes.

benefits of poly-U over rubber is firmer, less compliant, but doesn't transmit engine vibrations like steel motor mounts. I have steel motor mounts in a C3 and a IROC, and that for-sure locks that motor in place, it's not going anywhere, but cabin noise is increased somewhat. I no longer need a radio.

also, poly-u doesn't deteriorate like rubber mounts.

so for higher horsepower (actually torque) engines, the engine doesn't shift or move, the engine is held firmly in place, as when shifting gears.

I had to go to a poly-u mount because when I installed headers, the clearance is pretty tight, and I also upgraded the performance of the engine.

"Soft enough for smooth operation on the daily driver–yet strong enough to handle extreme high performance requirements." - Energy Suspension catalog.

For the sake of clarification, the converation above is in regards to 84-91 mounts, right? Because from what I understand the mount design changed (so did the k-member) for 92' and newer corvettes.

Does anyone know if poly mounts are available for corvettes w/the LT-x engines (92'-96'). thanks!

Default 91 C4 poly-urethane motor mount

footnotes for installing Energy Suspension mounts into the clamshells.

if you're using 7/16"x1" bolts to replace the rivets, the bolt-heads need to be on the outboard side (i.e. frame side) of the mount, with the bolt-threads towards the engine block. this provides extra clearance for installing, and more critically, on the drivers' side rear lower part of the motor frame mount, the bolt would be too close to the frame horn.

if you're using 7/16" bolts with 3/4" length, it shouldn't matter. none of the hardware stores I went to had 3/4" length, and it seems 7/16" dia bolts (coarse or fine thread) are a rare thing nowadays.

before installing the completed clamshell mount assy into place, run a 7/16" drill through the clamshell holes that the 3 engine-block mounting bolts will go through. you will need the extra clearance to get all 4 bolt holes aligned (including the long bolt that goes through the mount and frame horn).

to do the drivers' side, remove the alternator, and the #1 spark plug. it's pretty simple with a floor-jack and wide board under the oil pan.

I didn't do the pass side since that would require removing the newly-installed headers. but the mounts are the same, left & right. will have to save that one for a later evolution.

Thank you for posting your tips/experience. I know what you mean about 1/4" lengths for fasteners. The local places are the same here, they stock them 1/2" lengths only. I do need to order some other things from McMaster soon though so they will have 3/4" compared to 1/2" or 1" locally.
