Default stumbling acceleration

Hello all; This is my first visit and post here.

I haven't learned how to search past posts, so

excuse me for asking again maybe.

I've had this '88 for a few months and I'm

thinking maybe I need to change the fuel filter.

I located where it is but my manual doesn't

describe how to get to it to change it.

Is this something a shade tree mechanic can

safely do? I know about relieving the pressure.

Do I get at it from below or above?

Remove the side panel? Thanks SS

Default I found it!

I posted too soon.

I learned how to search and found a post

by Garret Kanenaga, 5-3-04. Very helpful.

Thanks, I'll try it myself. SS

Welcome to the forum!

Yeah you can do it yourself. It's under the car on the passenger side you just need to get the car high enough to get under there. Use flare wrenches on the line...the rest is strait forward. If you plan to hang onto the car you should get a Field Service Manual from Helms Insdustries....it will pay for itself in no time.

Good Luck!

Default I got it switched

It took me about 2hrs. because I had to drop the x-brace

that must be on convertibles only?? It wasn't mentioned

elsewhere, but it was right in the way under the filter.

There are 20 bolts holding it up under the pan.

Anyone know about these things? I'm sure it's stock.

Anyway, it is back to running strong as before.

Thanks, SS

Yes, they are a convertible only item.

Welcome!

Did that resolve your problem? What was your symptom?

Default problem solved

it accelerates fine now that the fuel line

is open again. But with a 20 year old car there are

always other problems to come up.

Now my problem is the "service engine soon" light

comes on a lot. When checking the code, 34 (maf)

comes up, then 36, which doesn't exist in my Haynes

manual. Anyone know what 36 means?

It runs so good, I'm ignoring the 34 signal.

I've disconnected the Battery and all is fine for a day,

then the warning returns. Any Ideas from the real mechanics

out there? Thanks, SS
