What i thought was a noisy lifter turned out to be a cam with a flat cam lobe, another that was rapidly deteriorating and a couple of worn lifters. The cam and lifters were Crane. So..., time for a Lunati 60103! It's all apart and going back together tonite. Should be fun once it's back together! By the way-if you are thinking of a new flat tappet cam be advised that Shell Rotell no longer has the extra zink-you'll need an additive from comp or one of the other mfgs to help protect things on break in. A couple of pics of the workspace;

Some of the Shell Rotella does still have the high zinc content. Look on the back of the bottle at the API ratings. If it says "CI4" it is the old formula (higher zinc content). If it says CI4+ it is the new formula.

Even the new formula Rotella is better than passenger car oils in reguard to zinc content.

Another option availiable at WalMart is Mobil Delvac 15W40. Which is just as good as the old Rotella formula and hasn't been changed.

For the 10 bucks I looked at the additive as insurance. Thanks for the heads up on the Rotella now though
