I am sort of new to all of this, but I want to play around with FreeScan and Carputings pcmcomm. Is there anywhere I can get a schematic for a cable or do I have to buy one. If I had the pinout, I am very capable of making one.
Thanks all :seeya
I also wanted to do the exact thing as you, try before you buy the SW and try to make a cable to save some bucks, but decided to buy one already made from AKM :) I thought that after the cost of parts and the hassle that it would be to obtain all of them that I would be better off just laying down the moola for it. I did find out later that Andrew from AKM does offer an unassembled "kit" of all the parts neccessary, you just solder/assemble the pieces together.
There are schematics out there though, I found some by doing "ODB" searches on Yahoo and such. I think Andrew of AKM has some links to cable diagrams at his old site at http://www.mindspring.com/~amattei/tuning.htm If you need a direct link or the image file let me know as I have it saved to my hard drive and I can e-mail it to you.
I bought from the Andrew at the AKM website and must say that he did a good job putting it together. I have yet to connect it yet, the holidays and all slowed my "toy time", maybe this weekend I can play around a little ;) Yeah, I could have assembled it, but I feel it was worth the money and it helped a "small business" get another sale.
Thanks guys. I saw that sight before, but the schematics link wasnt working. I emaild them the other day about it not working and I just checked and it is back up. After seeing the connector, and knowing how often I work, I will probably just buy one.
I bought one from andrew also (SN #007 actually :)) In all this time it's still working - I can say I have been very happy with the quality and the level of service. Plus he's a nice guy.
If you want to make it yourself andrew will probably answer your questions also (shoot him an email).
