Default Help Changing Oil

Greetings,

New to forum, I just got my 94 a few weeks ago, I love working on cars and always chaged my oil at home, this being my first vette, I was told I would have to jack the car from rear to change the oil. Is this true? Has anyone done this on their own? If so can anyone walk me though the process?

Best Regards,
Dennis

I prefer to jack up the drivers side front, by using the jacking location behind the front tire. This is easy and gives good access to the oil filter location.

You need to get the car up about 10-12" or so to get under the car to reach the drain plug and oil filter. You can use drive-ip ramps like Rhino Ramps or jack the car up and use jack stands.

If you look at the bottom of the rocker panels under the "gills", you will see two small arrows that represent jacking points. Use a floor jack at these points to raise the car and then place a jack stand directly under the vertical "pinch-weld" tab. On the driver's side, you can place a stand directly under the battery and the same distance in on the passenger side.

Because the drain plug is at the rear of the oil pan, raising the car from the back would not allow all of the oil to drain out.

With the front of the car in the air, you can easily reach the grease fittings on the ball joints and the tie-rod ends. There are no other grease fittings.

I would recommend a good filter like a Mobil-1 or K&N. Otherwise get an AC Delco or NAPA Gold filter. Use Mobil-1 5W-30 for the fill. It helps to fill the new oil fitler before installing it. Your owner's manual wil have instructions on how to reset the "Change Oil" light.

make sure you're jack is on that rib of steel by the jacking point arrow. once it's up you have the front suspension frame rail for your jack stand. after that it's down to business.

Default Oil Change

Greetings,
Thanks to all for the tips, very good info, I was careful to jack the car at the points located on the bottom no problem. All was a success, I use a delco filter but I used Mobil one synthetic, hopefully that is OK.

Best Regards,
Dennis
