What in the world could it be?
last night i was punched it up from a stop and it backfired! i really didnt think anyhting of it so i just took it home and parked it. Then when i went to crank it this morning it wouldnt start! The starter turned over very quickly and the engine would fire but it would never pick up...like it was running 10 rpm and it never got any more. so i turned the key back and the car ran backwards?

The car just started? I decided to try one last time and i hit the key and gave it a little gas and it cranked...it was a little rough on the uptake for about 2 seconds but it seems to be fine now? I wonder why giving it gas helped on a fuel injected car? will it be safe to drive now? what the heck could this be
maybe something got stuck in injectors, or fuel pickup. Id stay close to home for a couple drives to make sure its ok. Might see if any codes popped up (emmisions lite)

This could be something as simple as a TPS sensor. On the later model Corvettes, the TPS sensor is non-adjustable. The ECM looks at the voltage from it when cranking and uses that as the minimum TPS voltage for that session (until you turn off the key). In other words, if the TPS is worn out at it's minimum setting, the voltage would be outta whack. If you have your foot on the gas (say throttle is open 10% for 30 seconds), the ECM will use the 10% voltage reading as 0% throttle until the key is turned.
You can easily check the TPS with a multimeter if you have one available. The archives have info on checking it is you have one handy. A lot of TPS's wear out in the lower 25% range. Good luck, -Matt-
