Recently I had been out of town for about 2 weeks and I had accidently left an accessory plugged in and my battery went dead. I jumped it and got it started. This morning I went to the car and the battery seemed dead again and I heard a ticking sound coming from behind the fuse panel door on the passenger side. Has anybody experienced this or heard of anything like this? Someone mentioned that when a battery goes dead, the computer has to be reset and that is why a relay may be making that noise????? Any thoughts would be appreciated for this novice owner. Thanks.
Include the year of your vette in future posts.....and include the year in your profile too. I looking at your "shifter posts" I see that your car is a '93. I know of the "insti-Tune" shop you mention in those posts those guy have a bunch of vettes @ that shop on the weekends..mostly C3s though.
I sounds like your battery is "old and busted" take it somewhere and get it load tested or replace it.
The "ticking sound coming from behind the fuse panel door on the passenger side" you hear is coming from your AC fan motor spinning at low speeds. When the battery dies on several year C4s with Electronic AC controls the fan is turned "on" by default....reach over and push the "off" button and the noise should stop.
Charge the battery before deciding to dump it. Even driving around for a few hours may not fully charge your battery (depending on cars electrical load) and may kill your alternator.
Put that sucker on a good automatic battery charger on a low amperage charge (I like the 2 amp setting on my charger IOT bring back a dead battery without boiling the electrolite) and you probably will be good to go.
