Any one hear of this system? Sells for about $250. Advertise 20 horsepower gain - doesn't look like it would do much.
This SLP Cold Air Induction System is guaranteed to outperform any other cold air system available for your 1985-89 Corvette, bolting directly onto the stock air intake system. Constructed of high quality thermo-plastic material, this 3-piece system includes (Filter), (Induction Cover) and (Shield). Designed to last the life of your Corvette! Legal for street use in all 50 states. E.O. #D-187-12. Detailed instructions included. Some cutting required, template provided.

I had this on my car while I still had the EFI setup, and being summer when I got it, I noticed no gain whatsoever. The "cold air" intake bolts on under the radiator, and sucks in hot air from the blacktop as you're driving down the road. In theory, it will draw in cooler air when the temp drops, but will not help at all during the warmer months of the year.
Save the money for a 52mm TB or a cat-back system.
I have it, and I cut way up on it. I now have just the scoop, cut way up on the front to the hole in the shroud. I even cut the sides of the scoop some. The engine is louder, so it is sucking more air. I'm sure it's doing a better job than a cut lid - how is the cut lid getting air cooled by the motion of the car and outside of the engine bay with a closed hood? You will notice an improvement in throttle response at the least from my own experience...

Air can come up through the gap in the bottom by the filter:
Or from the top hood gap as well. I would think most of the intake air would be from air coming up behind the radiator but I have not seen an air flow picture yet. I'd sure like to!

The primary source of air is not through that gap, it comes through the radiator and the flow diagram shows that two large funnels of air come from either side of the intake and curve around to the airbox.

But I dont have a digital version to put on here.
By the headers or in that large gap in front by the pulleys? What source did you find the picture in? I'd really like to see it!
I have a through the shroud style (advertised as ram air) cold air intake from Breathless Performance. It made about a .1 second difference over a k&n with cut airbox, but less than that when the temp is 90+, which hurts consistancy at the track when the sun sets half way through elims. And the filter gets dirty quick down there. At any rate, 20 hp is a bit of a liberal claim. Without dyno numbers to back me up, I'd say it's worth 5 or 10 hp, depending on weather. And I already had exhaust improvements on the car, so probably would have been less gain with stock exhaust.
For the price, just cut your stock airbox, drop in a good filter, and save up for something that will do more good.
