Lol, you guys are hilarious... So... I got the stupid thing stripped down, up until the hub. I just cant seem to get the thing off. My guess is that its just never been removed. I did rent a puller and gave it a shot but eventually I go to a point where it wouldnt turn any more. I gave up on that and went to the pry bar... no luck. I hosed it down with more wd40 and cleaned up. Im gonna try the pry bar again tmro and see where we are. OEM distributer, AC Delco plugs, gator back belts, moroso wires and accell super coil on the way should be here by wed. at the latest. I hope. Till then Im stuck fighting this hub and balancer... any suggestions???

Ok, the give away to me is the occassional backfire out thru the intake when trying to start it. That is defintiely an out of time situation, which in turn means the optical sensors in the opti have been fouled and are now crap. New opti, not just a cap will fix it.
Not a bad job, just slightly worse than a root canal. I have done two of them, second time around was a piece of cake.

Leave the hub alone!! Take the 3 bolts that hold the pulley to it off, soak it from the back side with BP Blaster. Raise the car and from the back side use a piece of good hard wood (1" x 1") and a 3 lb hammer and knock it loose. Rotate the engine if you need to, it will fall off, but might take quite a few whacks.

[QUOTE=Mike_Vetter;1567148427. I hosed down the optispark with wd40 to displace any coolant that might have got inside since coolant will not evap on its own. (gotta give it a little convincing) [/QUOTE]

No wonder your Opti has crapped out !!! Now you must displace the WD40, which was used to displace the coolant with this product. It is guaranteed to displace all foreign objects from inside you Optispark:

I love the response and assistance. Once again thank you. Some of the suggestions I cant try at the moment as the car is apart and Im waiting for the new optispark to come in. As for the hub, from what I can tell the hub/pulley and balancer are attatched as one assembly. So when I mention the hub I also mean the pulley as well. Hitting it with a block of wood and hammer does sound better than the alternative I used. However, is there a way I can get past the crossmember? I attemted to use a pry bar from atop the engine bay only to discover it pretty much shatters the opti... But lucky me I have one on its way. I did discover that with the cover off the opti comes out without removing the balancer??? So is there a way perhaps that I can remove the cap on the new one and put it in as 2 peices??? Ill have to take it apart to rtv it anyway.... I suppose if I can get in there to take out the cap screws it might be possible... What do you guys think? If it works this could very well alter the feeling people get when they're told they're opti is juped

i do not know if there was any mention of a cash reward? i know the mention of reward was. that could be anything from the op doing something for you in the op mentality that is "rewarding" for you. it could be as simple as recommending not to eat yellow snow.
never mind, I do see $$$

The balancer is separate from the hub, held on with three bolts. You will not be able to remove the opti body with the balancer installed even if you remove the cap. Best way to drive the balancer off the hub is from the bottom, place the 2X4 against the balancer and strike with a heavy hammer, rotate the crank and hit it again in a different spot, repeat until it walks off.

in the case, a great possibility. however a backfire through the intake or exhaust, could be from timing chain jumping, wiped cam lobe, bent or broken valvetrain. however in this case, aminnich, i agree timing issue.
