Guys,
I have a stock, aside from exhaust, 1985 coupe. I need to replace my starter i think. Sometimes when I turn my key it grinds, if you will. Is this the start? Furthermore, Are some starters better preformers then other. Please give me suggestions.

I'm with AS84 in that I'd check to make sure the starter gear is meshing properly with the flywheel or flexplate before you go buying a new starter.
If you do wind up changing the starter at some point, I'm fairly certain that later model L98's (88+?) used a gear reduction style starter that is lighter. You may want to look into one of these as a replacement option.
