I have a 1985, when i turn on the windshield wipers the blades will come up from the resting point about 6 inches then back down to the resting postion and this will continue as long at the switch is in the high postion. when the switch is in any other postion they will not move at all. Has anyone had this same problem, and how should i resolve this issue. thanks again for your time
My 85 does the same thing at times. There is a wiring connector just below or beside the wiper motor that has a weak connection. I tied my connector wires to the conector with wire ties and this fixes the problem most of the time. Sometimes after being under the hood and disturbing the conector, the wipers act up again. But, this is where the problem lies. The correct fix is to replace that connector. There is not much room to work as far as getting to the wires, so replacing that connector is going to be tough.
I am having problems with my wipers as well. But my problem is different from the one being discused online. My wipers don't work in position one but does in two but they will not go to home position. I have to flick the switch off at the right time when they are down.
I had the same problem with my wipers as well and I'm willing to bet the switch is dirty.
Mine worked fine for about an hour on a rainy day when I was driving around.
They suddenly stopped in the full upright position. I shut them off and turned them back on and the wipers just 'pulsed' up and down couple of inches.
So I shut them off and waited a few minutes and they started working again for about 10 minutes and then did the same thing.
The next day I sprayed the switch with electrical contact cleaner and they've been fine ever since.
