I plan to stay in street tire classes, I don't want to trailer a set of wheels to the track, and I want to still drive to the track.

Just once man, one hit lol... just kidding. It's good to see you self control. You could always rig up a receiver and tow a miny trailer. I see it all the time at events and it always makes me chuckle, especially when the toyota MR2s do it

I installed a Hypercoil Z51 rear composite spring yesterday on my 96. The stock one was splintering due to age and was flexing way too much. The ride is much improved.

Good luck with yours!

Default Got the Hyperco catalog Friday

Their leaf springs are made out of a one piece "epoxy matrix" composite with height adjustable Delron pads. They come in three series for the C4: OEM replacement (343#front /286# rear spring rates); the HPS "street/performance" ("Z51OE" 660#/326# spring rate/ design) series; and the HPT "track" (Corvette Challenge spring rate/design) series.

I appreciate the hands-on C4 experience posted by 96GSS#007 (Jim), and psd_bullitt, as well as that posted by rcklessdriver and 59VetteFI.

I'm having the "Z51" springs installed in my 96 CE/LT4 right now w/ QA1 adjustable shocks & Banski trailing & camber arms along w/ a 396 stroker.

I'll do a followup posting on how it rides.

According to this: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/tech/c4/susp_chart.html the Challenge cars had Z51 spring rates.

Yeah, I noticed that the front spring rates for the HPS performance and HPT track springs are the same (660#). Don't know the rear rate on the HPT.

Van Steel indicates the HPT is a "Corvette Challenge rate & design" w/ a one year limited warranty, and the HPS is a "Z51OE replacement & design" w/a limited lifetime warranty:

I talked to VBP the other day and they can build custom rates. I just asked about fronts and he said he could build close to a 700lb spring. If my conversion is correct that about the same as a Z07 rate. Anyone find something stiffer?

Thanks

I think something between the stock ride and Z51 would be nice, though perhaps it wouldn't sell much. I had an '87 Z51 and while my car now feels a bit soft, I would not want it to be that firm.

Looked at the Van Steel link for springs and didn't see any front spring listing for my 87. I did find the one sport suspension package that goes back to 85 and the pic looks exactly like a pic in the VB&P catalog

What I have been looking for is something similar to the VB&P "Extreme Touring" system for my 87. The car has the Z52 package but that package uses the base spring. The car is used for autocross and some track use and I want to do a suspension upgrade for next year.

For those that are curious what the "Z51" front spring looks like compared to an FE1 '96 spring...

The springs give a stock ride height, so I trimmed the tips and lowered it ~3/4".

The big gapping hole where it goes. You can look closely and see that on one side you can leave the lower a-arm in place. The upper a-arms are in place on both sides...
