Default 89 coupe antenna extraction

i fed the power antenna pink lead with the head unit turn on lead.

i have the rear trim off the car for other work, i hear the relay clicking, and the antenna does not come up.

i have searched this forum for this subject and i have decide to perform a motorizedantennastectomy.

and not repair,

i have read about various methods; reach in from the bottom, thru the top, remove the wheel, blah, blah...

i like working on the car but not that much, heck cusinartvette is building a 383 for me, i'll keep ya posted on that one, so my plate is gonna be full.

so if someone knows for sure the fastest quickest, most painless way to remove the deadweight, i would like to hear about it... thanks

Did the antenna work before ??
If your going to remove it, spend the extra 5 minutes and remove the wheel and the inner fender. Then you will see what needs to be done. The hard part is reaching up to get to the large plastic nut at the top of mast.

I got at mine by removing the screws on the tail lamp assembly. Can you do that on an '89 or was it 1991 when they went with the rectangular-shaped lenses and easy-access screws?

'89 comes out from below - so remove the wheel and inner fender and you're pretty much done with it (since you've allready removed the trim to disconnect the electrical hookup). While you're at it, you can clean up the inner fender and slather it with a bunch of Armor-all - And of course get all the brake dust off the inside of the wheel, and if you're really **** about it, polish up the exhaust - but then that will make you want to do the same on the other 3 wheels and god knows what else.

thanks gents, i didn't do too much cleaning down there, but i did put .70 wheels spacers on the rear for the imitation 11" ZR1 look, it worked!

one last question about the antenna and i'll put it to rest, the wiring goes thru a box, and thru a hole that is plugged by the harness's large rubber cork, all that is gone now, antenna( it was rather light in weight), wiring etc, i taped up the hole as best as i could contort myself and grope...

if i decide to install a whip antenna vs, a dash tune trapper, what are the chances of flooding that box in a down pour if i don't plug the hole?

conversly, if i go with the tune trapper, what's the best way and best looking way to cover the hole on the qtr panel short of bodywork?

thanks, i wish it would be easy, then they would label me a molester, if i took shortcuts....
