I try not to work on my vette when I'm tired, especially engine/transmission related. Over the years I have slowed down my pace of work because I HATE doing it over. I still manage to make mistakes, but they are less in frequency.
Recently cleaned out a distributor cap with brake cleaner (POS honda). When I cranked the engine, heard a huge bang and observed the distributor cap land on my lawn...DUH!!!!

Well after reading that, and getting my giggle from Jimi, I'll share this.
I once spent three hours diagnosing a no start Mustang. The fuel pressure dropped to zero, this after the car was brought in for bucking and poor idle. It got the standard tune up that it had needed for about the last 5 years and 50,000 miles. When I say it needed it that long, I am guessing that is when the performance began dropping off.
Well after tearing my hair out checking circuits, fuel pressure regulator, lines, and available flow from the tank. I much to my dismay discovered I had installed the check valved fuel filter in backwards.....
I may be the idiot that they were thinking of when they started polarizing them....
Oh, after correcting this dumbass, the car ran like a champ. The customer was AMAZED at how much power it had and how smooth it was......DOH!
