Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Should be about 44psi or so.

I'm not sure if your car has 2 pre cats and the main cat (the one with the air pipe). Clogged cats could be the issue but those things don't usually go bad over night. If you want to swap it out I have a brand new never been used High Flow cat converter posted in the C4 parts for sale section for a great price.

I'm still leaning toward the fuel pressure check first. Get a hold of a fuel pressure gage and check the pressure at idle and leak down times with the key off.

The rattle and egg smell definetly sounds like the cat, and it would also cause the performance issue you're describing.........my money is on the cat.
