It is worth a couple hp. You can buy a new cover or cut yours to look like this: http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1756

Save yourself some money and cut your lid like Yorrci's pic. I did mine cleaned the sharp edges and painted. Just cost me a can of paint

Some say it helps. There was a dyno done on a few filters, here:

On the L98s the cut lid with hi-flow air filter has been shown to add about 10chp.

I did that on mind, and can say I haven't felt difference.

What do you think about the above dyno on the filters? Do you have any dyno or time slips showing a gain?

Being ready to move to the '87 stock intake, I am quite interested in feeding my monster.

YES it's worth it because it will take a total of about fifteen minutes and it doesn't cost anything other than a rattle can of black. CHP is Crank Horsepower. It will get you a couple of ponies for certain, enough to feel a difference, absolutely not. It all starts with one stupid mod then it's a converter, some gears , a stroker then a little spray

CHP is California Highway Patrol!

All 10 of them will come get you for making more sucking air noise.

The huge sucking noise exists now, without the cone on the TB!

Yes "chp" == "crank HP".

You won't likely "feel" a 10chp gain and maybe not even a 20chp gain but it will show up in 1/4 mile time slips as trap speed increase, assuming you can get consistent passes and the weather is the same between tests. That is, 10chp == 1mph gain at the traps and about .1sec off the ET.

There are time slip data and two dyno pulls on my site.

I would say if you are just going to cut it, go for it, but if you are going to spend 50 to 75 on a air filter element I would wait and spend 150 on a used claw and start there if you care or you are only having high hopes or feeling like a mod!

Which ones? I went and looked, I noticed several mods done at once with no way of knowing what did how much.

the open air lid will serve to dirt-clog up your filter and nothing positive that's even worth mentioning.

i put my homemade one in the basement, and will give it to the next owner of my '90 when its sold.
