Precision fabricated an Air to Air intercooler, with 2.5 " input and left the output for me to figure out.
The intercooler is set in car now with shrouding going in.
Using the licensplat cover thru bumper to help out with volume flow of air
Re-duing shrowd under car so air is dirverted up into both intercooler and radiator.

Its been challenging but coming to together.
I will get some progress pics up soon

thanks
John

I will be wrenching after the holidays. Right now parts are on the way in the door.

434ci, twin 61mm, 4L80E, Solid Axle Ford 9"

Giddy up!

John
pulled the motor out last weekend

Some History. Best ET 10.32@133mph
Best NA ET 10.71@125mph
Motor has been in car 6 years
Best NA pass in the state of Georgia last year 11.02@123
10:1 compression pump gas
solid cam 18mpg

I have the car at a friends whome is a fabricator to help me get the fabricating work done. I am not a welder so he has mocked up the intercooler, cold piping, hot piping firewall heater/AC issues etc.
Hot pipes and intake are out being coated.

Pulled the 434 out. Over all the short block is in great shape
My AFR heads however, found 2 broken springs (dampner) and the maximum seat pressure I measured was 150#. I installed this 5 years ago when the .254 cam went in. pacolay spring by comp, 225# on seat and 525# over the nose. These springs are junk right now, and I am very supprised that they went away like they did.
This is a 7K RPM motor, only sprayed 4 times and not really abused.

Hindsight makes sense, since I put 9" with transbrake in the car 2006, one would think the ET and 60' would improve vs the ZF, but it was a wash. I'm thinking that the heads where going away about the time I put the solid rear in.

Anyway heads are gone

putting in
Isky solid lifters
Hell Fire rings
MLS head gaskets 0.50 yield 9.5:1
New Cam solid grind small base
new rod bolts
new valve springs
INtercooler is a 1300HP rated 4.5 x 20 from Precesioin
AMS-1000

Reusing the short block assembly
Reusing the Miniram/AFR heads

Next step
Clean up engine compartment and start putting things back to normal.
I hate having this thing in pieces like this.

Mike Moran and John Meany are keeping me in-line so I dont make any mistakes since this is a budget build at this point in time. Both are the best I have ever delt with.

Here are some pics

Default Bosch 044's

Hi BowTie !
Absolutely gorgeous - your work! My 2 cents on the 044 pumps: put them on a plate behind the license plate. At idle you'll never hear them - they are quiet pumps. Additionally a lot easier to have 1 or 2 pick-ups in the tank and then in-line strainers to protect pumps then to hang 2 pumps (I know I've been there & done that). Wiring easier too and more reliable than the old bulkhead wiring. Just my opinion ! greg

Default Some more pics

Pipes are back from getting Coated
I used QC Coating in Michigan
I am very happy with the results
Pricing was good
Timing for two down pipes and Miniram was 3 weeks

Motor will be assembled this week.
I have all the parts

I was presented a lot of drama regarding OLIVER Rods and re-using Rod Bolts. Bottom line because I didnt document the stretch measurments when I built the motor 6 years ago, I had to buy new Rod bolts $260.00 for 16 bolts geeez

Things are slow but progressing.

Here are some more pics

Please expound, as I run Oliver Billets in several of the engines I have built (including my 408). It would be nice to know what I face in advance.

When you buy Oliver Rods you get Oliver (ARP) bolts
Oliver will not say anything about using an ARP bolt in its place
YOu have to go back to Oliver for their Rod bolts.

OK no problem so then my next question is can I re-use them? This was me talking to Oliver Direct

Well when I built the motor originally (6)yrs ago I failed to measure the stretch.
This data could have been used during this build to prove that the bolts are still OK
ie. more than .001 stretch between builds triggers one to buy new bolts.
I really dont believe my old bolts where bad, but I just did not know and would hate to blow it up for a 260 dollar mistake. Rod Bolts are a critical part in my mind, not like a gasket or something not critical.

Oliver makes some of the best rods thats why I have them and many use them.
Overall very happy. Oliver customer Support was excellent and very knowlegable.
Oliver dropped shipped the bolts that day to me .

The Drama I mentened, was the amount of wishy washy responses that I got regarding Rod Bolts. The forum and others just say what ever the hell they want with no back up. I have been doing this stuff too long you know.

The Oliver guys and Moran Concur that the bolts could be fine because it was a street application and under 7KRPM, and both told me that there was no data to support, so thus Its my decision, my risk. Now I think for a minute...Lets see I am going to try and squeeze an additional 500 ftlb's of torque thru this bottom bottome end... Enough said.

Hope this helps

John

Yes, very much so! I will be in the same boat as you when I disassemble, as I am not certain that I have the stretch documented, but maybe...

Are you running the forged or billet Oliver's?

Getting close

Still have to run the lines for wastegates
Still have to fab up the Aircleaners

Then its going to get started before I run it on the chassis dyno.
Hopefully no leaks and everything comes together.

It has been a journey
Her are some pics

On this last pic the air cleaners are going to lay on top of the aluminum
I opened the licenseplate all up to direct ambient air into the turbo aircleaners

All other volume flow of air flows under which is the intercooler, transcooler, and radiator.

As this gets on the road, I will get some more pics as I get things cleaned up.

John
