Will not crank over?
Will not fire up?
Has it got spark?
Can you hear fuel pump run?
More info needed.

It is always easier to work on at your house and 500 yards is not a far push. As far as your not start use your common sense.

Shoot some starting fluid in the TB and if it fires...you have spark. If it doesn't fire then check your ignition. If it does, look at your FP first and go from there

tim32920,

Truely, more info will help us help you.

However, if we assume it is cranking, and assume the fuel pump is working since you are smelling fuel --

It could be:

1. no spark: (bad ignitor/coil) or the OPTI distributor is gone.

2. no fuel to engine -- Fuel pressure regulator (FPR) vacume diaphram is ruputured allowing all fuel to be routed back to the tank.

3. Insufficient fuel -- bad vacume leak -- broken vacume hose, weak fuel fuel pump, low fuel, clogged fuel filter, etc.

Let us know more of the symptoms along with what was replaced last time that 'fixed' it and we'll help as much as we can...

BTW, if the car is 'safe' across the street, either leave it there (as you may need to tow it to a shop, so why tow it twice), or push it home -- remember to contact the owner of the lot and police to advise them too...

I just had surfery on my shoulder and cant push it home and i dont know many people here and it has to go up a grade.

The fuel pump is working ,i checked it at the fuel rail and it seems to be fine.

I put a new coil in it a month ago when it did the same thing i dont know what the prob was than ,i just went in the garage one day discusted and turned the key and it started.

It'll crank fine just wont fire.

I have been smelling gas but could never find any leaks.

I have an 86 tho. Hard to troubleshoot when it runs and it can leave you in too awkward of places to troubleshoot when it doesn't.

On my car when I could smell the fuel, I took out the plugs and found that I was getting too much fuel so I had to unplug the fuel pump fuse to get it fired up then plugged it back in after it was fired up. Just a thought for the future..

I'll try that next time but I smell gas all the time and it doesn't seem to be using more than usual,as a matter of fact I was just bragging on how good it was on gas.

The last time it did this i replaced the fuel filter and it cured it,so i am thinking maybe there is something in the lines or tank, but when i check it at the rail it sprays out fine.

I wonder about this. I had a car in my shop about five years ago with the exact same symptoms; the problem was a defective ecm. The car when it would not start, would not send a pulse signal to the injectors. Emulation of the square signal would start the car every time.

If the car does this again, try pulling one injector connection loose at a time and see if the car will start. One injector bad will stop the square signal from moving to the rest of the injectors. If you pull one off at a time and try the car, move to the next one. If the car starts, you’ll be on 7 cylinders, and you will know what the problem is with the car. . .

If the car fails to start the you should check the obvious things like are the plugs firing, do you have the correct fuel pressure, are the injectors firing and so on. Good luck and glad you did not have to push the beast 500 yards. I like you have had multiple operations in the past few years. . . Walking 500 feet would be a challenge for me, let alone pushing a car.

You might also consider adding something like triple A to your insurance policy too! It’s pretty cheap and may keep you from being in this situation again.

Happy Holiday’s,

Willcox Inc.

Feel you have a fuel injector problem or #age selection question get with Jon a FICINJECTORS...he'll get you going in the right direction. There is a sticky post with videos on the top of the C4 Tech page which gives a lot of info on injectors and how to ohm them out t see if they are failing....take a look. To remove wire connector just push or pull the small stainless steel clip (about the size/gauge of a paperclip) forward or backward and at the same time pull the black connector off the injector. If you want to remove the injector you'll have to pull the fuel rail.
