Default Running my 84 cold..

I was wondering how long you guys wait to start driving at cold start.. I like to wait for about 5 mins.. Wondering if I shouldn't plug in my block heater. I live in Florida but would like to just jump in and drive.

I find it really hard to believe you would need a block heater in FL.

Start and wait for 30 seconds maybe. No need to wait 5 minutes though.
Just get in, start it up and drive away. Just keep the rpm's in a reasonable range until it warms up.

If you were in North Dakota and the temps were below zero, maybe then warm it up a little.

To much idling is bad, I just drive without warming it up. I don't use WOT till the oil is at least 150° though.

Heated seats in florida

Just kidding around...Sound like a nice well-equipped car you have there

You are doing more harm than good with your 5 minute warm ups down there

Good to know because when it was cold I waited until longer than that... I thought on older cars you were supposed to wait until the motor warms up at least to half.. Also you dont think having the car plugged in would be better than not? < I dont know because I've never used it

No
Block heaters are for places like Fargo or way up into Canada. 20 below zero and your oil is so thick it doesn't want to circulate. You will not see those temps so you are just wasting electricity.
