My tach works but I know it is not accurate, it will drop to 0 wheni am cruising and then pow it goes to 4500. Should i just put in a after market? I dont see any thing odd with the wires from the dist?
Have you tried a new Tach Filter? When the tach on my 89 started jumping all over the place, the filter was bad. It cost about $25.00 to $45.00 depending where you get it, On my car it was held on by the top bolt of the bell housing on the trans, looks like a small tube.Fairly easy if you have a lift, if not it shouldn't cost much for a shop to do it. Bet you a nickel thats your problem..WW

The tach filter monting bolt may be loose too....look for it at the backside of the driverside head on the bell housing. Failing components inside the distributor might also produce these types of symptoms. Another posibility is a bad connection at the big firewall connector. The tach wire is one of the bottom wires on the big connector.....if water got/ever got into the connector this is where it would puddle. Tighten all grounds and clean the connectors.
