front bulb turn signal filament is burnt out and maybe the filament fell across to the other filament to confuse things.
Then you have a wiring issue at that corner. Possibly the bulb socket is bad. Possibly someone has "fixed" something there before and that fix is now going bad. Something is going on there..
It is Remotely possible that the turn signal switch itself is causing this, but by the way you describe the symptoms it's pretty unlikely. Get a test light out and look for voltage (and ground) at the bulb socket there with the signals on, and with the Flashers on. With and without the Parking lights on. I'll bet you have NO flasher voltage getting there and that you have a bad wire or wiring harness connector someplace in the circuit. Assuming the bulb Socket is OK.
I've had "new" bulbs be bad too. I'm guessing you changed the "old" bulb to try to fix the origional problem.....was the "old" bulb burnt out? Clean the goop out ot the socket then check the socket as the CF member suggests......other CF members have had the socket wires back out also.
The turn signal and emergency flasher use separate flashers. The flashers work on current, low current, slow or no flashing rate. High current, rapid flashing. Your right turn signal won't flash because the right front turn signal lamp filament is not getting current. Check the lamp with an ohmeter, if ok, then look at the condition of the socket. GM puts lithium (white) grease in the sockets to keep water out and lithium grease gets hard when it gets old and prevents the socket from making electrical contact with the lamp. 1986 grease is definitely hard now! Clean the socket out with a Q tip and either alcohol or electrical contact spray. Check the wires going to the socket for a broken wire.
Thanks for everybodys help, i found the problem. It turns out that someone did fix it before and had switched the wiring, connected the right ones together now works like a champ. this is just one of the many problems that i have. on to the next item.
