Default Miniram Reduce TQ?

Does the TPiS miniram reduce or increase torque numbers at all? I'm looking to install one and want to know because i dont want to lose the tire trashing abilities of my car. What will be avg. gains on a stock motor?

Well, normally people change the cam when they go with a miniram.

The combo of the better intake and cam suited for the miniram usually gets more HP and TQ.

You will still get a handful of retards who claim TPI is everything, but then again do you trust people in the 14s?

Will you lose torque. Yes. How much is heavily debated. Not a whole lot (eg 30ft lb) is my guess. However, what you lose in torque, will be made up in higher rpm power.

If you're running 2.59 gears in an automatic though, changing those out to a lower gear will really wake the car up -- with the miniram of course.

I have a Mini with ZZ4 based motor. 60' times are very close to what they were with AS&M runners and an Edelbrock base. If I gave up torque, it was not much.

Comp 503, or something similar with 220 or so degrees, on 112* lobe sep.

Miniram wants to be shifted around 6,000 RPM.

So. Something between an LT4 hotcam and a CC306.. CC306 is ok with a high stall converter, 11:1 compression, etc.

the torque loss of a mini is minimal and ONLY under the 4000 RPM range; when you get higher in the rev band, you have much more torque; on a stock tpi set up, the torque falls off dramatically after 4000 RPM; the party is over... that's why the h/p levels increase dramatically over the stock tpi set up w/the mini....and if you go with a bigger stick (cam) and lower gears in the rear, believe me (you should), the performance is much better over the stock set up since it will put you in the power band range much quicker....had both, so..

Nice article. That holley singleplane is the same intake I used to do mine. Mine is milled and I'm running an LSx throttle body, but still. 493hp and 480tq. I'd take that over a factory L98 any day

I was rather surprised the HSR came in at 501hp / 493tq. That is fairly impressive.

The miniram produced the most power, with a torque hit as expected.

What is interesting is the engine is the same compression ratio as mine, and same heads. It has more cubes, and a different cam but I have a blower. Makes one wonder if my engine would be faster with the cam they used and no blower than with my smaller street cam (222/230) and the blower..

HP & Torque theory 101. Horsepower = (Torque*RPM)/5250

As such, if you increase the horsepower at any given RPM, you had to increase the torque at that RPM. So if the mini ram makes any more hp at any point, it makes more torque at that point. What people get upset about is that they lose PEAK torque. So you give up 30 lb-ft of torque at 2000 RPM's, if you gain HP in the upper RPM's you HAD to gain torque in the upper RPM's as well. What most aftermarket intakes for the TPI do is flatten and broaden the power band so you end up with more total area under the curve.

The result is that if the race is short enough, stop light to stop light, it might cost you. If, however, the race is long enough, the area under the curve will win every time. That's why an LT1 beats an L98 stock for stock. The L98 will beat it off the line every time, but it falls on it's face by 4500 RPM's whereas the LT1 keeps pulling hard all the way to 5800 RPM. Never underestimate the ability to out-tach somebody!

I have always maintained the HSR is the best bang for buck .
Bummer it has fitment problems on C4's unless you do the plenum mod or scoop as I have done.
Holley cut themselves out of a market by not making a C4 compatible version.

I thought there is a company selling a modified HSR to fit the C4 now?

You are correct for a street rod or an fbody, what's a complete HSR like $500-600 bucks? Good deal for sure!

On a C4, to buy one of the 'modified ones' for $1400 is just silly. You can buy a better intake for less.

My singleplane cost me less to build than what I sold my used miniram for, and it fits under the C4 hood.

I have considered making a single plane intake myself!

On modding the HSR, the welded one piece (JOBY) version is probably the least expensive option, you just buy the HSR, grind it to fit yourself, then have it welded for $100 or less.

I think the problem with a singleplane for N/A use is the throttle body and air cleaner. I'm not sure you'll benefit from sucking in hot air over the engine, and by running a 90* elbow and plumbing you're defeating the purpose of directly filled cylinders. A hood scoop would be best but that would kinda take the whole street car image away.

How much modification does HSR require to fit under the hood of a C4?
