I saw this in Road & Track

http://www.dynolicious.com/

Anyone with an iPod or iPhone try this yet?

It's a data acquisition application that uses your iPod's or iPhone's built in accelerometers.

It's only $13

So for the cost of a GTech, you can have data acq and an iPhone.

I tried it out on my iPhone last time I was at the track. The time was a little slow(12.9 vs. 13.1 on the iPhone) but the MPH was dead on and the HP numbers were close just about 10 rwhp less then my last dyno. With more time I should get all the settings just right.

I thought it was the iPhone and the iTouch which is the new ipod, so i dont think the older ipods work with this app.

Yeah its jsut the iPod touch and iPhone, the ones with accelerometers.

I remember a thread sometime in the past where it was about .2 seconds off in its 1/4 mile calculations. But that's pretty damn good for $13.

Also, I read that Dynolicious will be unveiling a version for the Blackberry Storm in March, for those of you who want to go with Verizon for your nifty-phone needs

There is also an app called Pocketdyno that does close to same thing and the best part is there's a free version.

I was wondering about that product. It comes free with the Auto Enginuity software I ordered. I'll have to check it out. I hope it's not like the Gtech.........

Along these lines it makes me think that there should be a download of some kind that would allow my Garmin navigator to do the same?

Garmin GPS units do not have an internal accelerometer.

Ah, OK. But still they do measure distance and mph quite accurately. So It would seem that there could be an application to at least time 1/4 mile run with accuracy? I'm sure that I'm missing something here.

I bought a copy of this app and it's junk as far as I'm concerned. It gave me 0 - 60 times in the low 7's for a 2007 coupe and 1/4 mile times of 15.8 (timing actual slip says 12.8).

Driver? Was this in conjunction with an actual 1/4 mile run? Wheel spin will kill a good run and times.

Wheel spin was minimal. Application required calibration several times before and after updates.

In comparison, PCMSCAN performance options has a drag strip time slip option that incredibly accurate. This info comes from an OBDII connection and can be reloaded for observation or saved for later comparisons.
