Default the first bad code I've pulled so far.

I went out and started my 1984 Corvette coupe today and everything was fine until a few minutes later, the temp was at 163 and it was idleing at 800 rpm and I just tapped the gas pedal and the check engine light came on.When I tapped the gas it dropped from 800 rpm down to six and then back up to 8 again.
I got out my actron code scanner and hooked it up and it flashed the 21 code wich the book says means"throttle position sensor"-"signal voltage is high during engine idle or deceleration".
Can anyone here tell me what this means and what needs to be done to fix it,new sensor? adjustment?

My shop manual is about a hundred miles away and I'm lost without it.
Thanks everyone. daddue11

Check to make sure that the throttle body snapped back shut all the way and that it is not hung open just a bit from the throttle goose you did.

There are 2 screws that mount the TPS sensor to the throttle body which you can loosen to rock the sensor slightly which should adjust your sensor's voltage setting. Your sensor might just be out of the .45 -.63 range. The TPS adjustment will be easy if you scanner shows the TPS values.

Very facinating,I'm gonna check all this in the morning.
I just have the Actron scanner that makes your check engine light flash a certain number of times wich gives you the code number then you look it up in the book about what that number means, but, it doesn't show any specs or how to.
I apreciate the info and suggestions, not to mention the quick reply.
THANK YOU sir,you are a scholar and gentleman.
I'll post the results tommorow. daddue11

UPDATE:
After the better part of this year I finally got tired of trying to keep the TPS adjusted,so I took it to a friends speed shop and they said that the TPS was shot and it needed a new one.
Well they put on the new one, cleaned the throttle bodies for $179.00 and man!!! it now runs like a brand new car.
I never could have imagined what a difference that a new TPS would make. The tranny shifts so smothly now and at the exact rpms that it's supposed to,no more bogging at in town speeds and no over reving when it changes to high gear, and if you give it too much pedal it's gonna make you go sideways in the street.
My 84 has never ran this good ever,The way this thing runs now,I could never want anything else. This is SWEEEEEEET.
