1984-1989 cluster: Might have a problem with the one of the 4 switches on DIC switch panel (center of the console above the radio) or wire connection problem between the DIC switch panel and cluster.
1990-1996 cluster: grounding issue inside of the cluster.

Well, if both gages quit simutaneously then I'd suspect the Cluster. Otherwise, the Oil Temp Sender seems to fail with some frequency and if that occurred at some other time I'd suspect that Sender. Both Senders, Coolant and Oil Temp, are thermistors meaning that their resistance decreases as they warm up meaning that an open circuit is low and a closed circuit is max. Test the Cluster by grounding the signal wire to the Block. If it gives you Max, the Sender or wiring is bad.

Is it possible that you live where it's below freezing right now?
Both gauges will read "LO" if the temps of the respective fluid is below 32 degrees.
