Ive got to replace the sweeps on a friends car and cant remember if the window needs to come out or if it stays in the door to get access to the rivits..I did this years ago but cant remember. This is the WS thats on the outside of the glass.
You can do it without removing the glass just be careful drilling out the rivits. Once the door pannel is off access is easy. Be careful also with the rubber mouldings you dont want to tear them. Some people use tape on the drill so they don't go through the door skin. Good luck

I need to make it clear that I did NOT remove my glass either, but I did have to loosen the adjustments and drop it down a bit. Go slow, because as Iroc57 stated, it is VERY easy to drill a hole in the door.
