Default Blew my LT1?!

Dang havent been on here for a while lol. i think my engine is toast!. so i havent drove my vette since october of 08. heres the thing, i put insurance back on it, got it ready to be driven again. so i took it to my friends shop to check everything out to make sure everything was ok. the car was running it started to backfire when u give it a little gas. so i shut it off. checked everything out, everything looked ok. after 20 mins of inspecting everything i went to start it. it cranked but didnt start but while i was cranking it, the engine would crank then choke then it seem like when it choked the engine cranked the opposite way. so i let the car sit for 3 hours. went to go start it it cranked right up now i hear a ticking noise. you give it a little gas and it would tick a little faster but not loud. i think i F**Cked up the bearings . so i shut it off.

it does need a cap and rotor. i noticed corrosion. replaced spark plugs with oem acdelco plugs and autozone wires.

the engine only has 74k miles and i would hate if its done

My LT1 sat in a storage unit for almost 2 years, when I went to start it she fired right up and ran like a champ (thank you stabile). Is the fuel alright? did you put anything in your gas before you stored it? I don't think you blew your motor...

i hope not. left a full tank of mobile premium gas. it sucks cause i really love this car, cause my parents gave it to me when i was 17 and now im about to be 21 and i rarely drive it. i mainly work on hondas lol engine wise not looks lol i hate bodykits and aftermarket lights lol. but anyways if i had to pull the engine out. it would probably be a challage. if i had to replace it i would probably put an bigger motor in it but thing is i have no knowledge about v8 swaps.

Mine sat since Sept 08 and other than a dead battery, it ran fine when I pulled it out of the garage (after an afternoon of charging the battery). Are you sure that the ticking noise is internal. Try using a piece of rubber hose (garden hose or similar) to your ear and search for the source. Another thing to check....low oil, very low that is, can cause a tapping sound in the valves.

My gut feeling is you have a bad opti spark cap or rotor. What is your oil pressure when the engine is warm and at idle? I doubt cranking the engine could destroy the bearings. The ticking could be an exhaust leak or it could be arking from one of the spark plug wires to the chassis.

Check the basics first and once you rule them out you can determine if you have a more seroius problem.

One of my lifters ticked like crazy when I got it out of storage.

It eventually freed up and it's fine now.

If a bearing went, generally the engine would be shacking a lot, generally.

All good advice above, once after a prolonged sit, I went to start my 87 up and it ran for about 10sec and then cut off, couldn't get it to restart, found out the rotor in the distributor came loose and destroyed the inside of the cap, one of those oddball things. I also agree with checking checking the basics first(air/fuel/spark) If you didn't put f/stabilizer in, you could have a bad tank of gas, also contributing to your problem. One last thing, a spun rod bearing in my experience is kind of a louder high pitched squeaking noise (metal on metal) with low oil pressure, ask me how I know this, good luck.

I bet its a lifter sticking but 5 months is a good while to leave gas in a vehicle. It can start to go bad in as little as three weeks.

I find gas sitting in a stored vechile is usually not a problem.
if it sits in a 2 stoke motor, major problem.

Gas does crystallize and gum up over time, this could lead to a plugged fuel filter which could lead to a poorly running engine.

sorry for lettin the thread hang. moving stuff to new house lol. but anyways i let the car sit for 5 hours then i started it and the sound started disappearing. it was comming from cylinders 3 n 5. i think they were sticking but its all good now. ordered new cap and rotor and misc gaskets. going to replace all the wires with new ones. MSD ok? cap and rotor is delphi i believe. i got everything out but i think the crank pully is going to be a mission lol.

the terminals on the distributer looks corroded.

BTW does it matter what position the crankshaft is? Can i just take the crankshaft pully off and pull the distributer off?

No puller needed to pull the balancer/dampner. Remove the three bolts, soak it with PB Blaster, get under the car and tap/beat it forward. It will help to rotate the crank a time or two while tapping. Be careful not to damage the pulley.
