Hey everyone - just wanted to know how much I should expect my pocket to ache after getting a new windshield....had a rock chip that has now started to snake around and it looks god-awful. I heard that some insurance policies will pay for it (not sure if mine will or won't yet), but have no clue what the approximate cost might be. Anyone been through this? And anything to watch out for as far as post-installation problems with leaking, etc (such as should I replace the weatherstripping too when it's being done)?
There are cheap copies and better ones. The better ones go for like $600 installed I believe. Add glass coverage to you policy if you don't have it. It adds $7 a year to my policy with no glass deductible. I have gone through two windshields so I'd say the $7 is worth it.
I just got a price on replacing mine on a 93 $225., but you usually have to get new weatherstripping another 150. I have 500. deductible , so its out of my pocket, but check with your ins. co. Good luck Jim
If you have comprehensive coverage, that will cover it. You pay the deductible and your insurance covers the rest (which will probably be in 4 figures) Just make sure the glass company doing the work uses the correct sealer, the OEM windshield and they don't leave a mess...
ITS FREE!...THATS RIGHT...call you insurance company...tell them the windshield has to be replaced that a tractor trailer threw a rock up on you today....then goto the windshield place and give them you insurance companys name...you be all set.
this is the way it is in mass anyway....just had mine replaced....its mandatory that your windshield be perfect condition ..so they replace it..
Here in MA all glass coverage has a $0.00 deductible. I had my windshield replaced and the bill was I think just barely north of $600.00. This included a new OEM windshield (the price on C4 glass dropped about 50% within the past couple of years), OEM weatherstripping @ $250, and labor.
I just had a new glass installed yesterday, and it cost me $309 for the new weatherstripping and a PPG glass (installed). I didn't go through my insurance company though. If you are not going to claim it on your insurance, be sure and let the person you are getting it from know; there should be a tremendous difference in the price.
i paid $150.00 for mine including installation. the weatherstrip ripped taking it out  if i remember right the wheather strip cost me more.good luck. :)
