Best friend has a 95 vette, low mileage. has the following on a stock motor:
muffler deletes
slp air intake (3 cones)
160 thermostat
tb air foil thing
He's looking for a good cam and accompanying parts (springs, rr, etc)
His goal is mid to lower 12's. He doesnt want to go nitrous, he thought about it but backed out. His car has the "performace gear ratio" or whatever that RPO means for the A4. I think 3.07 or something. he doesnt want a stall or 3.73's or anything. He's just looking for advice on a good cam that wont lope like a '60s big block or anything and give good power. He liked the hotcam my TA used to have but i told him he could do better elsewhere. Maybe a CC503? He definately wants to be able to turn it to 5500 if need be.
I'm in the process of installing my new cam in my 95. The hot cam is pretty mild. I went with something that will make more power with a good bit of lope to it. Best bet is to tell your friend to go with a custom cam. He can then get exactly what he is looking for. Here's my cam build thread..

Something like the hotcam is pretty mild, will probably work ok with a stock converter. (just my guess, check with manufacturer first) The more radical cams with higher duration and more overlap actually make less torque in the low RPMs and need a higher stall to skip the weak low RPM range.
In other words, if he's dead set against a higher stall, don't let anyone talk him into a 270+ duration cam with 55+ degrees of overlap. Now if he changes his mind on the converter, it opens up a wider selection of camshafts. If he wants to see low 12s, I would suggest a higher than stock stall, since it also helps with 60 foot times. But if 12.6-12.8 is his goal, I think he should be able to get there without a higher stall.
