I started Lowring My car, When I got the spring out, I noticed the Pad on top of the spring is not solid Rubber. Its like 3 parts.
A Plastic part with a metal part on top of that, incased in a rubber Square. Not in any of the forms did i remeber reading this. Or at least I dont remember it.
I dont need to put any of those parts back do i? DoI just need to take all that off and glue in the new smaller wedges, right?
Also I guess the metal bracket that goes between the wedge and the frame should go back in as well right?
Some of the early cars had a nylon piece encased in rubber with a metal cap like you're describing. Since you're going to be using the wedges you can just pry out the nylon and carefully cut or sand down the remaining rubber. Don't cut/sand into the spring though. You will need to re-install the spring retainer brackets but they have to be carefully cut to allow for the difference between the new wedge height and the old bushing height (including any shims you may have removed). Try searching using the word lowering and you'll come up with a ton of info. Go to the corvette-guru site and check out the Tech Library. There's a great write-up on lowering by CentralCoaster. It's a must read for this project.
My memory says you are going to need the later style aluminum spring bracket or do as I did and shorten the existing steel bracket(remove some mid section and mig weld back together).

Thanks guys, I did order the brackets before I started. i was just suprised to find the metal and poly wedges., is it hard to get the spring back into postion? do you just bolt one side then use a jack on the other?
I measured about 3/8" thickness of the end pads so that much more could be gained. Leave something very thin under there to prevent rubbing the end of the spring through.
