Default Manual Fan Switch

For you guys who added an extra switch to turn on the fans, did your switch engage the relay to turn on the fan or did the switch actually turn the fan on directly? Both would required a ground to engage but the relay would require alot less current.

The switch should trigger the relay. I also put an led light connected to the pos fan wire. When the fan is on, I can tell because the led on the dash is lit.

The light is a nice touch however. Basic question is why not change the turn on temp in the chip?

I ran mine straight (no relay). An LED would be a nice touch, but found no need for it.
Switch up - fan is on, Switch down - fan is off.

Turned on relay. It will be diffcult to get a small switch with the current capacity to handle that much current. A normal switch will last awhile but if used a lot will fail.

My fan is programmed to turn on at 190. When I am in the staging lane, I turn the fan on to cool the motor to 170. After my burnout I turn the fan off. This decreases drag on the alternator during the run. The light reminds me to turn the fan off before running.

Here is where I was going to put the switches (in red). How did you wire the LEDs? I thought those only ran on 5V?

If the ECM is under the RH dash panel you can access the fan relay wire where it enters the ECM connector, removing the need to run a wire through the firewall.

I just installed an electric water pump a few months ago. I wired the pump to turn on when the key is in the accessory position. I would also like the abilty to turn the fans on witout the engine running. This would be useful between 1/4 mile runs. Would this kit work well? Anyone have it?

I guess you are really just paying for the convience of having a kit with instructions.

Thanks

ECM is under the hood. It is a 1994.
