replace shift boot 4+3
hopefully a simple question..... how do I remove the shift **** from an 86 with a 4+3 transmission with the overdrive button up top? I can remove the OD button and the "T" wedge, but I do not want to break the OD control plunger when I remove the ****?...... Thanks !

Remove the OD "T" bolt by turning it counter clockwise until it will come out. Count the number of turns it took to remove it, so when you reinstall, the switch will be positioned in the same position. After the the "T" is removed, spin the shifter handle counter clockwise until it is removed.

This works like a champ. I finally had the time and the correct shift boot to proceed with the replacement.
20 complete turns to remove the overdrive "T" bolt and 16 complete turns to remove the shifter ****. I used a panel removal tool to hold the "T" in the up position while snapping the OD button back into place.
Once you know how, this is a fairly simple process.

Here's one for ya...
Are you suppose to remove that little rectangular key under the OD button before turning the shifter ****?
Its the little details that help. Now I have to buy a new shifter assy.
