I just fixed the intake manifold but still have a considerable leak from somewhere. There may be a small issue with the valve covers but I'm thinking rear main seal or I've heard something about a leak from up by the oil filter. It's so bad I can see the drips on the driveway from when I back into the garage. It gets sucked under the car and onto the rear bumper. It also burns off on the exhaust pretty good. I can see smoke coming out between the hood and windshield and looks to be on the driver side exhaust which would lead me more towards this oil filter issue.
Hi. I had a problem with my 1988 vette that sounds like yours. Although the oil wasn't coming out the back, I did have quite a bit of oil dropping on the floor and on the driver's side exhaust pipe. The wiring harness that runs down by the oil cooler was dripping oil. Not much smoke, but the smell of burning oil everytime I drove the car. Turned out to be the oil sender unit. Had that replaced and no more oil problems. Hope this will help you find the problem.

mayan46 Senior moment. That should have been oil FILTER.
So you mean the oil filter unit because isn't that a separate piece or something with it's own gasket?
I hope it's not the part that rick shows since I already did the intake and I haven't seen any issue from up top since it was done but I'll check around there to make sure.
Had the same problem on my brothers 94. Replaced the oil pan gasket, oil filter adapter plate gasket and the low oil sender on the pan. All showed signs of leaking.
No more leaks ....

I recently changed all of those as well. I went with FelPro for the oil pan gasket. Its a well made one piece gasket.
I used a roll of gasket material and cut out my own for the oil filter adaptor. I couldnt find this gasket anywhere without purchasing the whole oil filter adaptor piece.
I replaced the oil level sensor on the pan from one I picked up at Autozone. I couldnt wait for the dealer to ship a new one. The one from the local store is made from cheap plastic but I had no choice at the time.
I meant the wiring loom that had oil dripping off of it was the one that came down beside the oil filter. The oil filter was not leaking, but the oil sender on the top back of the motor was. Pulled the distributor and replaced the sender. No more oil leaks. Good luck with your repair.
Well replaced the oil filter adapter gasket and o-ring. The worst part was getting the old gasket scrapped off from up in the block. What a pain, literally. I think that may have done it. Had a couple of small drips probably from the leftover oil that had already leaked but won't know for sure until that has time to burn off, blow away etc. The oil pressure stayed stable and I didn't smell anything burning when sitting at a light. I do think that was it though, I hope. Then will need a good degreasing/cleaning. I talked to someone who says to use Simple Green and let that sit for a while. Then use a small amount of water, put the hood down but not all the way, start the car and let it heat up. Supposedly there will be a steaming effect and cleans very well. What do you think.
I never used the Simple Green. I'm from the old school and use Gunk and the garden hose on my everyday used cars I've had. Anyway, we should have washed the engine off first and then pin point the leak. It sounds like you may have found the leak already. But, you know there might be 1 or 2 more.
Let us know how the Simple Green works for us guys stuck in the past with using Gunk.
I have noticed oil sludge on the wires below/behind the distributor. And looking around, I've also noticed oil sludge around the transmission where the level check tube bolts to the transmission.
