..maybe? I just read massezac1's post on his brake pedal travel before it engages the brakes, and I have a similar problem with my clutch pedal. The clutch works fine, and throws out ok, but only when the pedal is at the floor, and the clutch grabs at about a half inch off the floor and the rest of the travel is just free play. I have to really get the rpm's up to make sure I dont stall her out because the clutch grabs so quick with so little room. The fluid in the cylinder looks fine and is at the right level. Any ideas would be great, and I know you guys will have this figured out in not time!
Okay, but it's still a hydraulic clutch system? Same parts, doing the same things, right? Slave actuating the fork connected via a hose to the clutch master.
I would either be a mechanical issue like a disc worn so badly that the hydraulic system can't "self adjust" for the amount of wear? Or that there is a hydraulic issue somewhere?
I have to admit that I have no back ground knowledge of the 4 + 3 system to be of any real use...:o
If the slave is bad...it will leak. You could bleed the system....or completely take everything apart, clean and replace fluid. They get surprisingly nasty inside. Clutch wear could be a problem. Check the easy thing first, like determining pedal pivot wear, bleed, etc.

yup, still hydraulic-not leaking any fluid (that I can see). I wuill try to bleed the system first. Can I use a the same one man bleeder that I use for the brakes? Where is the bleeder valve?

You will not always see this leak. Sometimes the only way to tell if it's leaking is to check your fluid level or find out the problem is happening again after you fill with fluid.
I have '94 with ZF 6-speed but mine showed same symptoms as yours is. I replaced the slave cylinder and all has been well for 1+ years.
