Here's the story, My car has been running awesome since the head & cam change, the most recent was an upgrade to a 58mm throttle body about 3 weeks ago, well here's the problem after changing my UV joints one afternoon I was on my way home for my freind's shop when my car just shut off, I pull over and I started right back up, then as as I pulled away the car started poping back firing and ran like crap, no idel at all. I barely made it home and the car shut off in my driveway, and would not start back up, well since I had changed my throttle body a few weeks ago I figure some water must have gotten into my opti-crap, so I broke down and replaced it , along with the spark plugs..well I fired it up and it does the same thing, so then I replace the water temp sensors and all 3 oxygen sensors..Fire it up same thing, the last and final hit or miss I could think of, I borrowed a mass air sensor from my camaro (same year) and tried that..fired it up same thing...Someone told me it maybe could be the ingnition control module, so I guess that's next..I know the car needs to be put on a scanner, but I won't even run...to make it to a shop...any idea's anybody?.....The car is getting fuel and spark...any help would be greatly appreciated..
Did you check for any codes ( using the ses light and jumping the ADL pin )?
Is there any chance you had just put gas in the car? If so, it could be bad gas.
Pull the spark plugs and see what they look like...if wet, replace them.
You don't have to take it to a shop for the scanner thing. But I would guess at the ignition control module. Mine did the same thing and I replaced all the same stuff as you did. I had mine towed in to a shop because I changed the module first. Bought it at your local auto parts store. Turns out it was bad. Mech tried 4 or 5 different units before resorting to a GM one before car would run right. No problems since then. My car was setting DLC41 for this.
The gas had benn I there for about 2 weeks, and I did replace the plug because they were wet......So your ignition control module was bad? and it was doing the same sort of poping and backfiring?
Was the wet plug wet from gasoline or antifreeze? My 87 is sitting right now because antifreeze is fouling plug/s and causing bad miss until it gets warm. Check for spark while someone cranks it. Blue tinged plug insulators also is a giveaway for leaking head gaskets causing bad miss.
Before I could try to help, I would need to know the simple things. Does the car have spark, but won't start? Is it getting fuel? Codes? Get back with us and maybe we can help.
