87000 miles,is it worth/necessary, changing the lifters and adding new timing chain??
As said above the lifters are probably fine, just inspect em for wear, clean em up and reuse em. For as cheap as timing chains are you'd be silly not to replace it while you have it off. Go with a roller like he said above, they dont stretch out like the factory junk.

Thanks for the advice
Any recommendations on single VS double timing chain set for the 89.
(possible links or Part number)
I'd go with the cloyes set he listed, very good quality part at a decent price. The rollermaster looks nice too but is almost $60 more. I have no experience with rollmaster chains so I can't say if it's worth the extra money or not, but I've used cloyes chains many times and never had a problem with em. Sometimes they don't fit behind the factory covers so keep in mind you MIGHT need to get an aftermarket timing cover.
Geoff doesn't say so in his details but he is in Australia.
