Yep it will bolt in provided that you also get the ZF6 clutch, bellhousing, and all of the ZF6 hydraulics. Keep in mind also that it uses a dual mass flywheel over the single mass used on a 4+3. I think you can still use the single mass.

Targa, i would recommend a T5 swap. Much easier on the pocket, and parts are a whole lot easier to source for the t5. You will need a new driveline either route.

There are at least 20 threads with pics,

also, don't forget the starter, speedo corrector for 3.07 gears, tranny output yoke, cut the tunnel, & ear plugs

So would I have to get one out of a camaro or firebird? Or should I just get a new one? I only want to spend around $700.

If you only want to spend about $700, the T-5 may be your only option. I think it is a good option for a basically stock car, if you have a lot more power than stock, it likely won't hold up. Check out this web site for the details:

i wouldnt install a 5speed trans from a 3rdgen fbody... keep in mind GM never put a manual trans behind the 350TPI in those cars. they couldnt handle the torque of the larger cubic inch motor. they only put those transmissions behind the 305 for a reason

rumor i heard was not engine torque but that the f-body 7.5''/7.625'' ring gear rear ends couldn't handle the manual trans hits...maybe same prob as d36 (7.5") rears in the 84 vettes with 4-3's that led to d44 rears in later year c4 manual trans vettes.

late f-bod t-5's (world class) are rated for 300 ft-lb, close to what a stock c4 engine can muster...sticky tires and burn-outs are "abuse" that will kill a t-5 in a short, but even "rock-crushers" eventually.

given the vettes reduced bulk vs an f-bod, the t-5 should live in a vette longer than in an f-bod, and many f-bod t-5's do the bunny/drum act.

the 4thgen fbodies have pretty much the same 7.5"/7.625" rear and they have manual transmissions behind their LT1s/LS1s, although its the much stronger T56

the 84' Vettes had 290ftlbs, so maybe a stock Crossfire would be ok, but once you cross into the 85' and above cars, the L98 easily surpasses the 300ftlbs rating of the T5

if it were my car, id be hesitant about doing all that work to retrofit a tranny that may grenade on me a few months down the road

theres a guy in the "parts for sale" section selling everything you need to swap a ZF6 into a C4. its got some milage on it, but hes only asking $1000

Not to bang on the guy, but the hydraulics the guy is selling look toast! Bad hydraulics are what lead to toasted zfs. I would be hesitant buying the zf from him considering the condition of the master and slave.
