If it is, don't give up. I've seen a few posts on the Fourms where guys have had to return replacement ECMs a few times to get one that works okay.

West Point ROCKS!
Well the right hand injectors quit working again. The same thing as last time. Fuses good wiring good etc. Got another one different brand coming tomorrow morning.
Not sure how old the injectors are. I believe my prom is fried too. It smells like it's burnt up. Got new ECM today and ordered hypertech prom. Have to wait 5 days for prom. How hard is it to pull complete harness from firewall to engine stuff so I can check everything. Any suggestions?
Maybe the prom was the problem from the beginning? It smelled the same way before I put new ECM in. What do you guys think?
Sorry, the best I can think of at this point is a wiring short somewhere.
How about this: Post all the numbers you have on your ECM and your PROM. Maybe someone who has a 86 can verify that you actually have the correct parts.
and how am i supposed to watch the injectors spray fuel? Could my valves be adjusted wrong? Rockers i mean.
Not sure if this was addressed before, but when I had an 86, the only way I could check that the injectors are actually spraying fuel was to remove the fuel rails with the injectors still attached.
I first turned the they to "ON" to check for any leak. When I saw none I cranked the engine to check for spray. This has to be done with care to prevent a fire.
Adjusting lifter preload (sometimes incorrectly referred to as "adjusting valves" is a different matter. I have the procedure I use that I can post if you need me to; let me know.
Ok this car has aftermarket valve covers on it. On the left hand side there is a PCV valve. On the right hand side somebody put a breather filter in. No on the throttle body right hand side very top there is a hose connection there that is unhooked. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be coolant or vacuum that is supposed to go to the right hand valve cover. Anybody know or have pictures?
As I said, it leads to the EGR switch that is right under the TB via a "U" shaped vacuum line. This switch gets vacuum from said port, and cuts/feeds it to the EGR valve at the appropriate times.
EGR switch is bolted next to thermostat housing below TB. That port under the TB goes to one of the two ports on the EGR switch below. The other port on the switch then feeds to the EGR valve under the plenum mounted on the center of intake base.
Where can I get one of these? As well has the harness connector?
Here is some pics of the car. I'm going to take some pics of the TB tomorrow with that hose that's unhooked. Maybe I can get some help. Not sure if it will work.
