Default Smell of gas even when driving

A few days ago it was really hot out like 90 something and I could smell gas pretty bad even while driving(windows down), the whole day but now its around 70 and i dont smell anything...

I was wondering any ideas on what it could be/been?

Thanks in advance.

The fumes in your tank are stored in a Charcoal Canister (left headlight well) and sucked into the intake at cruise. More than likely, your Vette has a broken line. Logically, if you smelled it while the motor was off or the car parked, it would be before the Canister. System is designed to only vent while it's cruising along. Be nice to know your Year, but most of the lines run from the tank along the left side. Some of it can be rubber/hard plastic, some of it aluminum. Check the all the rubber/plastic stuff.

under the car, in front of the left rear tire about in the middle of the driver's seat area there's a little 3/16 line with a 3 inch piece of hose. When this hose goes bad, when you open the door, and sit at stop signals, you will smell gas from this hose.
I changed mine, and no more smell............................

Another place to check would be the fuel tank gasket and bolt o-rings for the fuel pump. Those o-rings were gone on mine and there was some fumes.

And it can also get blocked with rust flakes from the steel lines above meaning you get excess presure when taking the fuel cap off pressure

My 95 is doing this at times but not always. Mine could be the rust deal because it seems to build up more pressure that I would expect. Great info again.

If you remove the plate and rubber seal under the filler cap , you can disconnect the vent line (LHS ) .If you disconnect where the rubber vent hose joins the hardline by the LF tire you can blow through to see if line is clear.
Could also be a problem with the purge solenoid itself not allowing the system to purge when required.

Default 87 vert suddenly has same gas smell from front,

got a gas smell suddenly today coming from the front of my engine area I think...hard to track down...evasive smell...top down gas smell...

I'm wondering if it could be a faulty gas cap cause last time i put in gas, my cap was almost impossible to get off, I'm thinking to start with that tomorrow...hope it fixes it.

then if not, i'll try the evaporative cannister and a new o2 sensor.

Also could it be that you overfilled the gas tank & some gas leaked out?Don't mean to ask a dumb ? or anything but did you notice this after filling up?Wouldn't be a bad idea to change gas cap for locking one especially if cap appears or is old. Also with the locking cap to prevent anger exs jeaulous people,or stupid young kids or trouble makers.I remember as a kid the stuff some of the things they would do or damage things for no reasonI could never understand even as a kid why they did things like that

Default don't think it was overfilled because

the smell came even with half a tank and wasn't coming from exhuast or back of car. I have a locking cap on there for all the reasons you mentioned...but I think its broken so I bought a new one and putting it on today, hopefully cures the gas smell from the engine while it is running and also when I first start it up usually warm after I drive it for a while, there's a gas smell kind of strong for a little while. This is new, didn't happen until last time I put in gas and discovered the nearly impossible gas cap removal situation. We will see!

Thanks for reply

Check fuel pressure regulator-pull vacuum hose off regulator with engine not running & see if its leaking.
